Ahmed Eliaan Shaker Abuajwa menjadi satu di antara para wisudawan yang mendapatkan kesempatan itu.

Ahmed bercerita bahwa menjadi seorang dokter merupakan impiannya sejak kecil. Ia semakin termotivasi dan semangat untuk mewujudkan impiannya itu, meski berbagai rintangan berada di depan mata. Terlebih lagi, ia mendapatkan dukungan penuh dari ibunda tercinta.

“Saat saya berusia sekitar sepuluh tahun, ibu memanggil saya dengan sebutan Dokter Ahmed. Dan saya sadar bahwa saya harus berjuang dan belajar sebaik-baiknya karena saya tahu bahwa masuk ke fakultas kedokteran di mana saja membutuhkan perjuangan yang luar biasa,” tuturnya pada Wisuda Periode 231, Sabtu (4/3/2023) di Airlangga Convention Center Kampus MERR C UNAIR.

Sempat Alami Jatuh Bangun

Lebih lanjut, wisudawan asal Gaza, Palestina, itu bercerita bahwa semasa menjalani sekolah setingkat SMA (sekolah menengah atas) di Gaza, ia sempat mengalami kepahitan. Pasalnya, sekolah tempatnya belajar tercatat pernah mengalami kehancuran sebanyak tiga kali.

“Alhamdulillaah, kami sebagai murid-murid di Gaza tetap semangat untuk menjalani kegiatan belajar mengajar,” kata Ahmed.

Selepas lulus SMA di negara asalnya, ia mendapatkan beasiswa di salah satu universitas di Sudan. Namun, kesempatannya dalam meraih beasiswa tersebut sempat terhalang lantaran sulitnya mendapatkan akses ke luar dari negaranya, Palestina.

Satu tahun berlalu, hambatan berupa kesulitan akses tersebut berhasil ia lalui. Ahmed selanjutnya dapat merasakan pendidikan singkat selama satu semester di Sudan, sebelum akhirnya tempatnya belajar itu terpaksa ditutup secara permanen.

“Saya mulai satu semester di fakultas kedokteran di salah satu universitas di Sudan. Namun, karena terdapat suatu masalah, universitas tersebut ditutup secara keseluruhan,” terangnya.

Berkuliah di UNAIR

Alih-alih berputus asa lantaran kegagalan yang dialami Ahmed justru semakin terpacu dan bersemangat untuk mengejar cita-citanya.

Ia mencoba mencari-cari beasiswa yang memberikan akses untuk mengenyam pendidikan bidang kedokteran. Setelah melalui proses pencarian yang cukup panjang, akhirnya ia memutuskan untuk mendaftar di Universitas Airlangga.

“Saya mencoba apply di UNAIR. Alhamdulillaah, saya diterima sebagai mahasiswa kedokteran di UNAIR,” ujar Ahmed.

Menjadi mahasiswa di negeri dengan kultur yang sama sekali berbeda dengan tempat asalnya merupakan hal yang tidak pernah Ahmed pikirkan. Namun, ia percaya bahwa takdir Allah Ta’ala yang membawanya berlabuh di FK UNAIR.

Ahmed mengucapkan terima kasih dan memanjatkan syukur sebesar-besarnya atas kesempatan dan bantuan yang selama ini ia dapatkan. Baginya, UNAIR, segenap tenaga pendidik, serta teman-temannya memiliki andil besar dalam keberhasilannya menyelesaikan studi.
