Indonesia diprediksi akan mengalami masa bonus demografi pada tahun 2020-2035, dan puncaknya di tahun 2028-2030.
Bonus demografi terjadi karena adanya perubahan struktur umur penduduk Indonesia. Hal ini disebabkan oleh dua hal. Pertama, angka kematian bayi (infant mortality rate) menurun sehingga jumlah bayi yang tetap hidup hingga dewasa terus meningkat. Mereka adalah generasi yang mau menerima sesuatu jika hal tersebut relevan dengan mereka dan dianggap mempunyai manfaat serta menguntungkan untuk hidup mereka.
Oleh karena itu diperlukan pendekatan yang berbeda dalam memberikan pemahaman program karena pendekatan untuk era Baby Boomer (lahir di era 1946-1955), generasi pasca Revolusi Kemerdekaan yang masih kental dengan nuansa komunikasi satu arah, informasi dan teknologi yang belum melimpah, serta pemerintah adalah pemain tunggal dan utama dari keseluruhan kehidupan bermasyarakat, berbangsa dan bernegara. Dengan menurunnya produktifitas penduduk adalah indikasi bahwa gagal dalam menghadapi bonus demografi, jangan sampai Indonesia gagal mengalami bonus demografi. Indonesia patutnya meniru negara-negara yang sudah berhasil menghadapi bonus demografi.
